Labiaplasty Surgery/Labia Surgery
Women with large labia can sometimes experience pain during intercourse and even feel discomfort in routine activities. Labiaplasty reduces the outward appearance and corrects irregularities of the labia.
What is Labiaplasty Surgery? Procedure
The procedure, which lasts just one to two hours, is an outpatient surgery performed under general anesthesia. Most patients return to work after a few days and can resume sexual activity within six weeks.
During a labiaplasty, we typically trim the excess issue, remove a wedge-shaped section and remove the top layer while keeping the underlying portion intact. Patients wear a tampon to absorb any drainage and to provide protection to the area. Expect some swelling and discomfort for up to two weeks. You may resume strenuous activity after the third postoperative week.
Possible complications include scarring, sensation changes, pigmentation changes, asymmetry, infection and wound separation.
